8 Reasons to Pick Perry’s Steakhouse in Frisco
Posted by Bethany - Tagged , ,

Everybody loves a good meal, so it’s safe to assume everybody really loves an awesome meal. Now that Perry’s Steakhouse has officially opened the doors at their shiny, new Frisco location by Stonebriar Centre, you can have the food you really love this holiday season and throughout the year. If you still need convincing, then let’s get right to it. Here are THE 10 reasons to pick Perry’s Steakhouse in Frisco:

1.  The delicious food. Obviously! This is a given and more detail on this below, but come on. It’s Perry’s. You know pretty much anything you order is going to be amazing. It’s just that kind of place!

2.  The cocktails. Let me tell you, they are serious about making these and making them the right way. Their mixologists perfect each one, all the way down to slapping the mint leaves in your mojito for just the right flavor (check out the experts here). There really isn’t a bad one in the bunch so close your eyes, point, and order!

3.  The Classic Sidecar. So what does a sidecar have to do with Perry’s Steakhouse? Everything. It’s one of their most popular cocktails from the 1920′s and after tasting (or gulping) down one of these, I’m officially a believer. It has the perfect mix of Hennessy VS, Grand Marnier and Caravella Limoncello with fresh pressed lemon juice. Shaken and served up with a twist of lemon. Not too sweet, not too strong, not too weak.

4.  The Asian Ahi Tuna Tartare. This really is the perfect appetizer. Light and flavorful and leaves you satisfied and still with enough room left to comfortably enjoy your main course.

5.  The “off the menu” Chateaubriand. If you can’t decide on a flavor or want a variety of flavor explosion, look no further. The chateaubriand is individually cut into three slices and topped with truffle merlot sauce on one, béarnaise sauce on one, and roasted peppercorn sauce on another. My personal favorite is the roasted peppercorn, but there is no bad pick among the three!

6.  The accommodations. Not only does this restaurant seat up to 350 guests in beautiful and perfectly lit space, but they offer 4 private dining areas for various party sizes to ensure a perfect get-together for events anywhere from birthdays to company holiday parties.

7.  The happy hour. Who doesn’t love happy hour? Perry’s bar, Bar 79, features specially priced bar items, wines, and martinis weekdays from 4:00pm to 6:30pm and from 4:00pm to 9:00pm on Sundays. What a perfect opportunity to relax after work and order one of those Classic Sidecars! Or even check out their newest holiday cocktail, the Holiday Sparkle that’s just $6 during the month of December.

8.  THE famous Perry’s Pork Chop. Hand selected in the Midwest specifically for Perry’s Steakhouse, this prime chop is cured, roasted, slow-smoked and caramelized, and served with homemade applesauce. Not only that, but each one passes the seven finger test. Yes, its seven fingers thick. You’ll want to refer to the picture on the left for proof. Try to contain the drooling.

If you haven’t checked out Perry’s Steakhouse in Frisco yet, there really isn’t anything like the present. You will be thanking yourself and wondering why it took you so long to relax and enjoy their can’t be beat menu!

How to Climb to New Heights in Frisco

Looking for your next challenge to go along with the new Fall season? Let me introduce you to Canyon’s Rock Climbing in Frisco. This indoor rock climbing gym has everything you need to physically and mentally climb to new heights. So how can a place and activity promise so much? Let me explain.

First of all, I will tell you that this was much harder than I thought it would be. I like to consider myself somewhat fit (don’t we all), but this really challenged me from every aspect. My arms were fatigued. I developed on unknown fear of heights about 6 feet off the ground (it felt like 60 feet, I swear). And on top of that, it’s also like putting a puzzle together while you figure out where to best place your foot and how to best grasp the wall. So long story short, there was a lot of stuff going on all at once that I just didn’t plan for.

Here’s the part that really sold me on the experience. I did it! There was such a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that went along with climbing all the way up the wall, ringing the bell, and trusting my partner to help me repel down the wall safely. Pretty addicting actually! With each climb I figured it out a little bit more and climbed a little faster with more strategic moves.

One of the crazy parts of my experience is by just being in that gym, you can always see the next level that is waiting for you to conquer like tougher climbs (apparently it’s possible to climb upside-down) and bouldering (apparently it’s possible to climb upside-down without a rope). I can imagine that with each new level you accomplish comes with a fabulous sense of satisfaction!

Not only is does Canyon’s Rock Climbing give you a great space for a new kind of work out, but it’s a great place to take a friend! I went with a couple of girlfriends and we had a blast! Plus, Canyon’s is right around the corner from Frisco Square so it’s in a great spot to grab a meal afterwards to re-fuel.

If you’re up for the challenge and ready to climb to new heights, check out Canyon’s Rock Climbing and let me know what you think:

  • Rates: starts around $17 for a day pass
  • Instruction: private lessons and intro class
  • Address: 7164 Technology Dr. Suite 202, Frisco, TX, 75033
  • Phone: 214-872-2992

Emerging Salon in Frisco is Your New Go To

Looking for a new salon in Frisco or to give your hair a healthy boost? Then upgrade from your current salon to one of the many talented stylists at Andrea Jordan Salon located in a chic new spot in Frisco Square. I recently was intrigued by all the buzz I was hearing, so I went to check things out.

I am pretty picky about my hair, so trying out a new stylist can be a little nerve wracking. Let me first cut to the chase and tell you that there was definitely no need to worry. Here are a few of my notes from my appointment:

  1. I had an old, expired Groupon for a Keratin Treatment and they went ahead and honored it anyways. Off to a great start! (Check out their current Groupon deal)
  2. The Andrea Jordan Salon is located in a cute spot right in the heart of Frisco Square. Inside, the decor is perfectly stylish and modern. Not you’re everyday salon and I loved the look right off the bat!
  3. During the very brief wait to meet my stylist I was offered a variety of beverages including complimentary soda, water, or wine. Let the rest and relaxation begin!
  4. Next I met my stylist, Whitney, and we were off to the sinks for a wash to get started!
  5. The Keratin treatment was easy and painless and smelled amazing (no chemical or permy smell here!). The treatment was painted on my hair (like hair dye would be) layer by layer, blow dried and flat ironed to activate the keratin.
  6. I was filled in on the whole process of how the Keratin treatment would work and how best to take care of my hair post treatment. Benefits of the Keratin treatment include less frizz and less time to dry your hair and style it. To see the best results you’ll want to leave the treatment in for at least 48 hours and only use salon quality sulfate free shampoo and conditioner (check out my favorite Birchbox pick here).
  7. Whitney was awesome! She makes you feel right at ease and was very fun to chat with throughout the appointment. She’s definitely a pro and even gave me a complimentary quick trim to go along with my newly smooth hair!

All this to say, I think I’ve found a winner! Quality salon, check. Quality stylist, check. Quality service, check. Book your appointment at this triple threat salon today:

This New Frisco Restaurant Gives a Fresh Spin on Comfort Food
Posted by Bethany - Tagged , ,

Well, it’s safe to say I’ve found my new favorite restaurant in Frisco. Truly. Picture this: a modern, yet rustic, restaurant that is serving up unique versions of all your favorite home cooked meals. Elevated comfort cuisine, if you will. Each dish is not only packed with mouthwatering bites, but has it’s very own special touch and one of a kind attention to detail to it that sets it apart from all others. Sound enticing?

Meet one of Frisco’s newest restaurants, Barnlight Eatery located at 15922 Eldorado Pkwy (intersection of Eldorado Pkwy and Custer). Recently opened in the Spring of 2014 by the charming husband and wife duo Phil and Christina Doyal, this restaurant is getting down to the basics while blending in rich southern Texas flavor.

They say, “we delight in serving the soul of Texas cooking to every table,” and after sampling their menu last week I couldn’t agree more. Here are the highlights of the meal and Barnlight experience:

Black-Eyed Pea Hummus
I probably could have eaten a whole meal out of this hummus. Wow. It was amazing. I want some right now just thinking about it. The amount of flavor this hummus packs pleasantly surprised me. If you want a healthy and satisfying appetizer for just you or you and your family, this is your pick hands down.

Crab Cakes
Okay. So I LOVE crab cakes. This is generally an easy sell for me. I haven’t ever eaten a southern style crab cake though. Hints of corn and jalepeño really set this crab cake apart from all the others and the sauce it sits in really hits it out of the park.

Artisan Grilled Cheese

Swiss, boursin and monterrey jack cheese, bacon, seared green tomatoes, frisse, on challa bread. I probably had you at bacon. THE BEST grilled cheese I’ve EVER had. And I really, really mean that. This dish right here will be apart of my go to comfort food from this moment on.

Chicken Fried Shrimp
How can anything called Chicken Fried Shrimp not be amazing? What’s not to love? Shimp = delicious. Chicken fried anything = delicious. Barnlight Eatery’s southern marriage of the two topped with yet another awesome sauce that compliments the dish in all the right ways = superior deliciousness.

Zinfandel Pot Roast

This pot roast falls apart at the light touch of your fork. That’s always a key sign that the pot roast in front of you is about to blow your mind. And your taste buds. Barnlight Eatery’s Pot Roast did not disappoint. This was one of those dishes you just can’t stop eating, no matter how full you are!

Fried Breast of Chicken
First of all, this isn’t just fried chicken. No. Definitely not your average fried chicken. Think of your average delicious fried chicken, then multiply that by 10. Even then, this mouthwatering chicken is beating that and will be the fanciest fried chicken you ever had. And the sauce drizzled across this dish really is the cherry on top!

Key Lime Pie
You may think you know Key Lime Pie. You may think you know exactly what you’ll be getting and tasting when you order this Key Lime Pie. You are wrong. This Key Lime Pie tastes like no other Key Lime Pie I’ve ever had. This secret recipe is already a fan favorite at Barnlight Eatery and I have officially jumped on the Key Lime Pie bandwagon. There is a surprising yet comforting kick in this pie that will have you coming back time and time again! A perfect and refreshing finish to any meal.

Every single one of these dishes wasn’t just your average dish. You could immediately see and taste all the effort and attention to detail that went into every single bite. I’m telling you, Barnlight Eatery will quickly find its way to the top of your favorite restaurants list. A must try in Frisco, Texas!

3 Reasons to Check Out Mama Fu’s in Frisco
Posted by Bethany - Tagged ,

“Fresh, bold, and inspiring.”

This simple yet powerful statement is how Mama Fu’s puts their stake in the ground. Their Frisco restaurant recently invited me out to dine and check out THE Mama Fu’s experience. And let me tell you…it did not disappoint. Curious why? Simply put, here are the 3 reasons the check out Mama Fu’s in Frisco:

  1. You can have it your way. Yes, yes that was Burger King’s slogan..trust me, it applies here too. Need your entree gluten-free. No problem! Are you a vegan. No issue here! Just simply ask for your dish made the way that fits your needs and they can take care of it. No if’s, and’s, or but’s about it.
  2. A great spot to stay awhile. The location is convenient and right in the heart of Frisco’s best shopping areas, at the intersection of Preston and 121. Chances are you’re already over here running errands. When you pop in, you’ll find the restaurant atmosphere is fun, modern, and inviting. And one of the best parts? It’s casual eating that won’t hurt your wallet. So why not relax, hang out on the patio, and stay for awhile.
  3. The tasty food. Duh. You MUST try their fried green beans. They are awesome. Just do it. I would also recommend their Banh Mi chicken sandwich. The chicken (also a pork option) is cooked in spicy hoisin sauce and served on a baguette filled with pickled carrots and daikon radish, cilantro, and cucumber slices with sweet potato fries on the side. The flavor explosion in my mouth and all the ingredients complimenting each other really is a winning combination! Last but never least, their chocolate cake. I started off planning on “just having a couple bites”. I demolished that thing. So yummy.
So there you have it! THE 3 reasons to check out Mama Fu’s in Frisco. There of course are so many more reasons, but these are my personal favorites. Do you have another reason you like Mama Fu’s in Frisco? I’d love to hear about it! Comment below or send me a note here.

©Color Up 5K

It’s time! Throw on your tennis shoes and sign up for one of the final Frisco runs this Spring, the Color Up 5K on May 31, 2014 @ 8:00am. This run (or jog, walk, skip, etc.) sounds crazy fun and is definitely the most colorful run all year!

Here are 5 reasons to lace up those sneakers and run:

  1. You start out wearing white and while you go through the course of 4 paint zones, painters, and magic pixie dust. By the end, you’re speckled with blasts of color. So not you’re typical 5k!
  2. Parking for the race is free! One less barrier in the way to getting out there. Simply park at Frisco Square parking lots and parking garages or the Toyota Stadium parking lots available. For more parking info check out this race map. Better yet, carpool!
  3. The goodies! Get your race t-shirt as well as free pictures. Pictures will be taken at the finish line and the Color Party to be sent out in a link a couple days after, so don’t forget to download, tag, and share you photos.
  4. There’s a party afterwards! After you cross the finish line, head to the Color Party. There will be a DJ, dancing and of course more color! Every 10 minutes there will be a countdown to runners simultaneously throwing color up in the air. Seriously…when is another time you can do this? (YOLO!)
  5. Best of all, $5 from each adult race fee will directly benefit Frisco Family Services. Not only will you be having a blast, but you’re giving back at the same time. It’s a win, win (even if you don’t actually win the race)!
If you haven’t signed up yet, it’s super easy. Simply visit this site and then pick up your packet on Thursday (5/29) or Friday(5/30) at Run On! Frisco from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. Need more info? Check out the runner planner for all the race details.

How 1 Business in Frisco has Made Jumping Safe Again
Posted by Bethany - Tagged , ,

You’ve probably heard of the hazards of traditional trampolines. Perhaps you even fell victim to an injury or two on a trampoline as a kid (guilty!). One business with a new Frisco location, Springfree Trampoline, is changing the way we think about safety on a trampoline by revolutionizing the trampoline design. In fact, their design is the world’s safest trampoline!

I went to check out what all the commotion was about this past weekend and I have to say, I kind of geeked out over their product. It’s a really cool concept! There are no springs involved, but instead it provides that trampoline bounce from fiberglass rods. The rods are actually underneath running the outside rim of the trampoline, instead of running around on the surface of the trampoline. And even better, your bounce is smoother and softer than a normal trampoline and is easier on your joints. They have truly done a fantastic job rethinking this!

If you’re looking for a sweet backyard addition this summer, I would urge you to grab your kids and head over to their Frisco store and test out the Springfree Trampoline!

Still need some convincing or interested in more facts? Check out their FAQ.

And for a short time only, you can participate in their GoPro Camera Giveaway! Now through Monday, May 19, just visit the new Frisco store and tweet, check-in or post on Facebook with the hashtag, #SpringfreeFrisco. It’s that easy and you will be entered into the giveaway!

Lastly, for my health and wellness fanatics, here are the many health and fitness benefits from jumping on the Springfree Trampoline:

  • Cardio Fitness: Just 10 minutes of jumping on a trampoline is equivalent to a 30 minute run.
  • Low Impact: Trampolining is a low impact exercise – A jumper’s vertical acceleration and deceleration is absorbed by the trampoline mat, taking up most of the shock.
  • Stronger Bones: The repetitive action of jumping improves bone mineral content and builds the musculoskeletal system. Each landing from a jump is double the force of gravity, which develops muscle strength.
  • Detoxifying and Lymphatic Drainage: Bouncing on a trampoline stimulates the free-flowing lymphatic drainage system, helping rid your body of toxins.
  • Mental Health: Endorphins, the positive mood enhancing chemicals released during exercise, are triggered when jumping. Plus, jumping is fun!

Have you tried out the Springfree? I’d love to hear about it! Comment below or send me a note here.
